Can I import/export my translations?

In this article, you'll find out how to import and export your translations.

Note: The import/export feature is available for the Advanced and higher plans.

If you're not subscribed to one of these plans, you will have to go into your Translations list and change the translations one by one (see How to edit my translations).

Feel free to visit our Pricing Documentation and scroll down a little bit; you'll find a tab with all our different plans and features.

Exporting translations

Before you export your translations, please make sure that your translations are up-to-date regarding your website's content. You can visit the pages in the translated version or synchronize the translations from your Weglot Dashboard > Translations > URLs page.

See How can I manage my URLs and generate the translations? for more information.

Exporting all translations

1) Go to the Translations > Languages page in your Weglot Dashboard

2) Click on the Actions button and select "Export"

Here you can choose the format you wish to export your file, the language pairs, the qualities, and the types of translations that you want to export:

3) Make your selection and click on "Export"

You will then receive the following message: Your export with xx translations is being processed and will be sent to youremail@site.com

You can also find the download link in the Activity section in your Weglot Dashboard > Overview.

Exporting translations by URLs

You can select which URLs you wish to export the translations of your website from. If some translations are not exported using this process, ensure that the translations are associated with the desired URL (see How can I change the associated URL of a translation?).

1) Go to your Weglot Dashboard > Translations > URLs page in your Weglot Dashboard

2) Select the URLs, then click on the three-dot menu. Click "Export"

You can then choose the format you wish to export your file, the language pairs, the qualities, and the types of translations you want to export for the selected URLs.

3) Make your selection and click on "Export"

You will then receive the following message: Your export with xx translations is being processed and will be sent to youremail@site.com

You can also find the download link in the Activity section in your Weglot Dashboard > Overview.

Exporting specific translations

1) Go to the Translations > Languages section of your Weglot Dashboard. Then, click on the icon to the right of the language pair whose translations you wish to export.

2) Select the translations you would like to export and click on the three-dot menu at the bottom of your screen. Click on "Export".

Here, you have two options: the file format of your exported translations and the language pairs you would like to export. You can also opt to export only the source language.

3) Make your selection and click on "Export"

You will then receive the following message: Your export with xx translations is being processed and will be sent to youremail@site.com

You can also find the download link in the Activity section in your Weglot Dashboard > Overview.

Importing translations

If you wish to import external translations to your Weglot project, you'll first need to export the existing translations to be sure that your translations will match the original content. This is because Weglot has its own way of reading, parsing, and cutting the content before generating the translations.

When importing a file, only modify the content of the "word_to" column.

If you have an issue when importing, please ensure your file's structure is correct. Note that CSV files need to be encoded in UTF-8.

You can also download example files (CSV and XLIFF) from the Weglot Dashboard → Languages → Actions → Import page to help guide you further.

1) Go to your Weglot Dashboard > Translations > Languages page

2) Click on the Actions button and select "Import"

3) Drag and drop your CSV or XLIFF file and click on "Next"

Here you can see the translations that will be imported.

4) Scroll down and click on "Import translations"

You will have two options available before importing.

Create translations for new sentences:

If activated, Weglot will create translations for new sentences.

Mark unchanged translations as reviewed:

If activated, Weglot will set all the unchanged translations as manually reviewed. (We do not recommend activating this if you haven't finished reviewing the translations you've imported.)

Then, you will see the following message: "Your imported file is being processed. You'll receive an email once it's complete". The import status will also be displayed in the Activity section in your Weglot Dashboard > Overview.
