Can I import/export my translations?

In this article, you'll learn how to import and export your translations.

Note: The import/export feature is available for Advanced and higher plans. If you're on a lower plan, you will need to edit your translations one by one in the Translation List by navigating to the Weglot Dashboard > Projects > Translations > Languages. For more details, refer to How to edit my translations.

2. Importing Translations

To import external translations into your Weglot project, it's recommended to first export the existing translations to ensure they match the original content. Note that Weglot processes and structures the HTML content uniquely (read, parse, and cut) before generating translations.

Important: When importing a file, only modify the content in the "word_to" column. Ensure your file structure is correct, and CSV files must be encoded in UTF-8. Example files (CSV and XLIFF) can be downloaded from the Weglot Dashboard > Projects > Languages > Actions > Import page for guidance.

  1. Navigate to the Projects > Translations > Languages page in your Weglot Dashboard and click on the Actions button, then select "Import".

  1. Drag and drop your CSV or XLIFF file and click "Next".

  1. Review the translations to be imported, scroll down, and click on "Import".

Before importing, you can choose to:

  • Create translations for new sentences: If enabled, Weglot will create translations for new sentences.
  • Mark unchanged translations as reviewed: If enabled, all unchanged translations will be marked as manually reviewed (not recommended if translations haven't been fully reviewed).

You will receive a confirmation message: "Your translations import is being processed". You will receive an email once it's complete. The import status will also be displayed in the Activity section of your Weglot Dashboard > Overview.
