How to migrate to Weglot
In this article, you'll learn how to switch from your current translation solution to Weglot and how to maximize your existing translations.
If you are using another translation solution on your website and if you wish to use Weglot instead, here's a step-by-step guide that explains how to proceed:
1. Export your translations from the solution you are currently using
Depending on the solution you are using, you should be able to process an export of your website translations or contact their support to get such a file.
(Optional) You also have the possibility to export your glossary rules from your previous tool if you have some and to import them later using Weglot (see the last part of this article)
2. Remove the solution from your website to make sure it's no longer present
To avoid any conflicts with the translations and translated pages, we strongly recommend removing your current translation solution before proceeding to the next step.
Don't hesitate to reach out to their support to make sure there's no code left over.
3. Set up Weglot on your website
To set up Weglot on your website and depending on the technology you are using, you can follow our integration guides on this page.
If you use a specific CMS such as WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify, you can follow the dedicated integration guide by searching for "Webflow integration" or "WordPress integration" in our FAQ.
If you are not using a specific CMS, you can follow this article: General Integration - Integration / Setup.
If you need any help setting up Weglot on your website, don't hesitate to reach out to our support team at support@weglot.com
4. Generate the Weglot first layer of automatic translation
Weglot will then generate a first layer of automatic translations that you'll be able to manually edit.
In order to make sure all your pages are translated by Weglot, you can use our URL scan feature to detect all the content on your site:
5. Manually edit your new translations
Weglot provides several features that allow you to easily manually edit all your translations, for further information see this guide:
If you have an Advanced plan or higher (see our Pricing documentation), you can also import your past translations (see Can I import/export my translations?) and carry out a first translation, meaning you don't have to lose all your previous translation work.
6. (Optional) - Import your glossary rules
If you have some glossary rules from your previous translation solution, you can:
- Export them from your previous tool.
- Download the ‘Weglot example glossary’ file (you can download it into your Weglot Dashboard > Project(s) > Glossary > Actions > Import)
- Add your glossary rules to our file (and make sure to match the format)
- Import the file back into your Weglot Dashboard > Projects > select your project > Glossary > Import file
Note: The import/export feature is available for Advanced and higher (see our Pricing documentation).
