How to use the Preview Mode

In this article, you'll learn how to try Weglot without installing it on your actual website.

1.What is the Preview Mode

If you consider using Weglot on your website, explore its preview mode as a trial option. This feature enables creating a duplicate webpage to test the translation functionality and familiarize yourself with Weglot's usage.

This feature requires any technical skills to be set.

The only requirements to set the preview mode is:

  • The URL of the website you need to translate
  • The original language of your website
  • The destination language (languages you want to translate)

Of course, there are no risks to setting this preview mode as this is not under your domain, and the preview will be on a separate URL.

2.How to set it up

Step 1: Create an account on Weglot (~ 1 minute)

You'll find and manage all your translations on this account. Simply create a Weglot account here.

Step 2: Select your website technology / CMS

Select your website technology. If it isn't available, select “Other”.

Step 3: Choose languages

Then, you reach the "Configure your languages" page where you need to specify the original language of your website (the language in which your website was initially created) and the languages you want to translate it into.

In the example below:

  • the original language is: French
  • the translated language is: English

Click “Next” to go to the next step.

Step 4: Add your website details

You will land on a new page where you need to enter your website's URL (you must enter your own domain name, like mywebsite.com), not a URL generated by your CMS.

Then, click on the "Next" button.

Step 5: Choose the Preview Mode

Below the DNS settings, you can see the Preview button.

The next step will ask you to go to your website and trigger the switcher button you can see in the bottom right corner:

You can see the button here:

Once clicked you can see your website translated and you can access your Translations in your Weglot Dashboard and then go to Projects > Your project.

3.Additionnal informations

It should be noted that the Switcher editor and the Visual editor are not functional in preview mode.

4.Going live

You can now go live easily.

To do so, you can choose the Go live button in Dashboard > Settings and click on Finish My Setup.

Then, you will be redirected to the General setup of Weglot.
