How can I use AI Suggestions to edit my translations?
In this article, you’ll learn how to use AI Suggestions to rephrase or shorten your translations in your Weglot Dashboard.
1. What are AI Suggestions?
Weglot automatically translates your website using leading machine translation providers, including:
Whenever possible, Weglot uses DeepL as the translation provider. When a language pair is not supported by DeepL, Weglot uses Google Translate or Microsoft instead.
These automatic translations provide an initial translation layer for your website. You can keep them as they are or manually edit them to improve the quality of your translations.
AI Suggestions are an additional editing tool that helps you rephrase or shorten an existing translation. They can be useful if you are not satisfied with the current translation or would like to explore alternative wording while keeping the original meaning.

2. Where can I find AI Suggestions?
To access AI Suggestions, go to your Weglot Dashboard, select your project, then go to Translations > Languages and select the language pair you want to edit.

Click the translation you want to edit. A panel will open on the right side of the Translation List.
In this panel, you can find the AI Suggestions section:
3. How can I use AI Suggestions?
In the AI Suggestions section, you can choose between two options:
- Rephrase: generates alternative ways of expressing the current translation while preserving its meaning.
- Shorten: generates shorter alternatives to the current translation while preserving its meaning.
The generated suggestions provide alternative versions of your existing translation. Because the AI aims to preserve the original meaning, some suggestions may be similar to one another.
Once you find a suggestion you want to use, click “Apply this suggestion” to apply it to your translation.
You can then review the translation before continuing with your translation editing.
4. How are AI Suggestions generated?
AI Suggestions are generated using OpenAI.
To generate suggestions, Weglot provides OpenAI with information about the existing translation, its language, and your website industry. OpenAI then generates five alternative translations based on this context.
You can specify your website industry when setting up your Weglot project.
You can also find this setting from your Weglot Dashboard by selecting your project, then going to Settings > General.
