Can I use AI-generated translations?
In this article, you will learn more about how you can choose between different AI-generated translations to help you manually edit your translations.
1. Weglot's translation providers
Weglot utilizes the top three machine translation providers to translate your website automatically. These providers are:
Using machine translations lets us provide you with an initial layer of automatic translations for your content. It's entirely flexible, and you can keep these machine translations as they are or further refine them to achieve the desired quality for your multilingual website.
To refine your translations, we offer several options that you can explore. These options are detailed in our documentation regarding translation editing, which you can access here: Translation Editing Documentation.
Whenever possible, Weglot will use DeepL as a translation provider. When the language pair (source language and destination language) is not available in DeepL, Weglot will use Google or Bing.
Now, with the "Translation Suggestions" or "AI Suggestions" feature, you can access translations made by an AI.
2. Where to find translation suggestions
To find the translation suggestions, visit your Weglot dashboard > Project > Choose your project > Translation and select the language pair that you want to edit.
You can easily find a translation using the search bar in the top-right of the list or by using the filters.

To see translation suggestions, simply click on a translation that you want to edit, and a panel will be open on the right.

3. How to use translation suggestions?
In the suggestions section, you can choose to rephrase or shorten a translation:
Suggestions are alternate versions of the automatic translations. They allow you to choose between several translations if you are not satisfied with the original one. Please note that the suggestions may be close to each other, as the AI will try to stay as close as possible to the original meaning:

4. How is Weglot "generating AI suggestions"?
These translation suggestions are generated using ChatGPT. Weglot sends a prompt to ChatGPT, providing it with the already translated text, the language of the translation, and your website industry. It then asks for five alternate translations.
You can indicate your website industry during the setup of your Weglot project or by going to your Weglot Dashboard > Project > Settings > General and see this section at the end of the page:
