Managing your Weglot AI project
In this article, you'll learn how to manage your content in Weglot AI
1. Pages and Translations
There are two main categories of objects in Weglot AI: Pages and Translations.
Page: A page represents a URL of your website, like the homepage ("/") or an "/about" page. It contains several translations, which are the sentences present on that URL.
Translation: It represents a sentence translated into your project languages. It can be just one word or a whole paragraph. A translation can be associated with one or multiple pages (for example, a word in the footer of your website will be associated with all pages).
💡 Compared to the standard Weglot product, a translation always exists in all languages in Weglot AI.
2. Adding pages
During the setup of your project, you will add a few pages (a maximum of 10) just to see how it works.
Usually, you will want to add more pages if you wish to translate your entire website. You have several ways to add pages:
- In Pages > Add: You can scan up to 100 pages of your website and add them.
- In Pages > Add: You can manually enter a URL that you want to add to your project.
- Automatically from visits: A page is automatically added to your website when it is detected during a visit. For instance, if the page "/careers" is not yet in your project and you visit that page from the staging environment (or production once set up), it will be added to your project automatically. With this mechanism, more difficult pages to scan will be progressively added as users visit them for the first time.
💡In Pages > Options, you can modify the behavior to manually approve new pages that are detected.
3. Editing Your Translations
You can manually edit all translations in the "Translations" menu. Simply click on a translation to modify it and then click the "Save" button.
💡Once you have edited a translation, you can check your staging environment to confirm the change. Perform a hard refresh (Mac: cmd+shift+R , Windows: ctrl+F5 ), and you will see your edited translation.
4. AI features
In the translation editor, you can try using AI features to improve your translations. Click the small logo to see the AI features dropdown menu:
- Rephrase: AI will rephrase your translated content.
- Retranslate using a model: AI will redo the translation using the language model that you select.
- Shorten: AI will attempt to shorten your translated content.
- AI Expert Analysis: AI will analyze your original sentence and its translation. It will provide an evaluation, assign a grade out of 5, and offer suggestions.
💡For greater accuracy, the AI analyzing the translation is different from the one performing the translation. For instance, Gemini AI may handle the translation, while ChatGPT analyzes and grades it.
5. Staging & production environments
In Weglot AI, there are two possible environments: staging and production.
- Staging: This is a test environment where you can preview your translated website on a separate, Weglot-generated URL. The staging environment is created during project setup and is always available (it cannot be deleted unless you delete the entire project).
- Production: This is the live environment. When you're ready, you can connect your real domain to Weglot AI. You will point your DNS directly to the Weglot server, and Weglot AI will deliver your translated website.
💡In the "Pages" menu, you can publish or unpublish pages per environment. For instance, you can decide that the "/about" page is published in the staging environment but unpublished in production. You can then publish it later when ready.
