What is Weglot AI?

In this article, you will learn what Weglot AI is, how it works, and how it compares to standard Weglot.

Weglot AI is a new product that can translate any website into multiple languages using Generative AI (OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, ...) to produce human-like quality.

Weglot AI is different from standard Weglot in two main areas:

• The quality of translation: Standard Weglot uses DeepL for translations. While the quality is good, you cannot customize the model.

  Weglot AI creates a custom model tailored to your specific case. You can decide the tone, the audience and give any instructions you like to the model, even very specific. Your instructions are then taken into account to create the translations, using ChatGPT or Gemini AI.

  The results we are seeing in terms of quality are outstanding, allowing us to produce human-like translations.

  
  

  Managing the translations: Since ChatGPT/Gemini translations take a few seconds rather than milliseconds, we focus on translating your pages in advance so that everything is ready when you publish them.

  Here is what is new in Weglot AI:

  • You have a staging environment where you can preview your translated website before it's live. The staging environment is on a Weglot URL like yourwebsite.preview.gdn-weglot.ai . This allows you to control everything before going live.
  • There is no 'exclusion URL' feature; instead, you control which pages you publish or unpublish in all languages.
  • The translation editor includes several AI features: Shorten, Rephrase, AI expert analysis, and Retranslate.
  • You can scan your website in advance to translate multiple pages initially. Pages will also be detected upon visit, just like in standard Weglot.

We didn’t integrate ChatGPT/Gemini into standard Weglot because these technologies can't translate in real time like DeepL.

The standard Weglot product is based on the fact that the translation is instantaneous (For instance, when you visit a new page that is not yet translated, we translate it with DeepL on the fly). However, because Generative AI can take several seconds, we can't integrate it into the standard workflow.

This is why we created a separate product to adapt the workflow and make working with Generative AI more natural.

In Weglot AI, we use the power of Generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini,...) to generate your translations in the best possible way. We use several models (Gemini 1.5, Gemini 2, ChatGPT o1, 4o etc...) and make them evolve based on how generative AI evolves.

To create your translations:

• First, we create a tailored model for your website: We retrieve its context, your preferred tone, the audience you are addressing, and any custom information you want to include. (For example, you can say to the model: "We are in a tech environment, so please keep some technical words in English when it feels more natural, such as "workflow")
• Using your tailored model, we translate your content.
• We incorporate your manual translations into the model so it can learn from previous translations.

We have kept pricing similar to the standard Weglot product. You can pick a plan based on the number of words you need to translate.
