Troubleshooting - Why is my website not fully translated, but only some parts?

In this article, you'll find some potential reasons why your website is not fully translated.



You've selected a language with the Weglot button, and you noticed that some parts of your content were not translated. Here are potentials reasons that might cause this and the related solutions:


1. Cache issue

Browsers use cache to allow your website to load faster. In order to achieve this, the system stores files in its memory that can prevent the display of outdated content, including edits such as translation modifications, on the website.

You can use the following tips to clear your cache:

*Hard-Refresh:

Mac: cmd shift R (lowercase)

PC: ctrl F5


Add "?a=b" or any other combination of letters at the end of your problematic page's URL, for example:

https://mywebsite.com?a=b

2. Number of words

Check your number of translated words in your Weglot dashboard under "Plan Usage". 

If you see "Quota Exceeded", it means you have reached the limit of the total translated words within your current Weglot plan.


To make sure all your website content is translated, you can upgrade to the next plan by going to your Weglot account, clicking on Billing > Upgrade, and selecting the next Weglot plan as well as your billing frequency. 

3. Excluded content

Check if you already excluded the untranslated part directly in the Weglot settings in your Weglot Dashboard > Settings > Translation Exclusions


If you excluded that part, remove the corresponding block by clicking on the trash icon and refresh your website.

4. Exception rules

Check if you have an exception rule that could apply to the untranslated part directly in your Weglot Dashboard > Translations > Glossary



If it's the case, remove this rule and refresh your website.

5. JavaScript content

Check if JavaScript generates the untranslated content. 

This is often the case for dynamic content, previews of products, or blog posts. Go here to know if your content is generated by JavaScript.


6. Automatic content translation

Check if you have the automatic content translations deactivated in your Dashboard > Settings. 

When the feature is deactivated, you must accept the new content before generating the translation. This prevents your word count from increasing before you validate.


You can access the automatic content translation list by clicking the button action > View detected content.

You need to approve the new content before displaying them. The content will appear after a refresh on your website. The approved translations will be generated in your Translation List.


7. Paragraph size

Note that Weglot's API and the APIs of Automatic translation providers accept requests of up to 5,000 characters. If a request is longer than 5,000 characters, the APIs ignore it.


You have to add the code below in the middle of each main content of each untranslated page into the HTML file of this page to cut the paragraph into several pieces and trigger the translation for this part.

To do so, you must find the page you are looking for (e.g., Terms of Service) and click on it to view the HTML code.


8. Specific use case

a. Characters

You can use some symbols like &lt; and &gt; in your original content that can prevent translations.

If you need to use these you can replace them in your original content with:

"&lt;" and "&gt;"
